Realizzato dalla Popy nel 1973, il Mazinger Z ha il vanto di essere il primo Jumbo Machinder prodotto.

A prima vista può sembrare bruttino e sproporzionato per via del design poco elaborato rispetto agli altri jumbo, ma vi assicuro che se avrete la fortuna di poterlo osservare da vicino ne rimarrete affascinati.

Le versioni più conosciute sono tre, la Gold Mazinger (prima versione), la Yellow Mazinger (seconda versione…da non confondere con la versione Venezuelana) e la Slim Pilder (ultima versione).
Queste versioni si distinguono tra loro grazie alle differenti colorazioni della testa.
La versione Gold (prima versione) ha occhi e antenne colore oro, in più la vernice della testa è di una tonalità di blu differente da tutte le altre, tra quelle Popy è sicuramente la versione più rara e ambita dai collezionisti, sono veramente pochi ad avere la fortuna di possederla.
C’è da dire che fino ai primi degli anni 90, molti collezionisti ignoravano l’esistenza di una possibile variante color oro, tanto che la più famosa e diffusa versione Yellow era riconosciuta come prima versione.
La casa produttrice Popy marchiava indistintamente tutti i box con il numero 1 (first edition) e proprio nel box è nascosto uno dei più grandi dilemmi su questi fantastici plasticoni.
Infatti nella foto principale è raffigurato un Mazinger Z completamente diverso dalle 3 versioni citate, sarà il prototipo usato per le pubblicità televisive? Ad oggi è ancora un mistero.

Di sicuro la più diffusa è la versione Yellow, ne sono state vendute circa 400.000 pezzi nei primi 5 mesi, questa si distingue dalla prima versione Gold grazie al colore giallo di occhi e antenne.

La Slim Pilder è forse l’ultima versione stampata dalla Popy, prende questo nome perché il Pilder della testa è completamente diverso dalle altre versioni, più lungo e schiacciato. Questa particolarità gli permette di avere un discreto valore di mercato, anche perché le versioni stampate furono davvero poche.

Tutte e tre le versioni Popy uscivano con i missili di serie ma non c’era alcun meccanismo per poterli sparare, l’unico modo di ovviare a questo problema era di comprare uno spara missili ZZ, in vendita singolarmente tra gli accessori per i Jumbo Machinder.

Esistono altre versioni del Mazinger Z jumbo, concesse su licenza a famosi marchi di toys, alcune molto rare, ma a mio parere la qualità delle plastiche e dei dettagli è molto più scadente rispetto agli originali Popy.
In Venezuela ad esempio fu prodotto dalla Famosa il ricercatissimo e costosissimo Mazinger z jumbo, una chimera per tutti i collezionisti.
Si differenzia tra tutti grazie al colore giallo di braccia e gambe le v del petto sono bloccate con delle viti e non ha alcun supporto reggi missili.

Anche di questo esemplare ne esistono almeno due versioni.
La prima ha antenne e occhi di colore rosso, la testa di colore bianco, mentre il volto è colorato di blu.

Un altro pezzo molto raro è il Mazinger Z Spagnolo, prodotto su licenza dalla BRB.
Leggermente più piccolo delle versioni Popy, il BRB è l’unico ad avere un meccanismo di sparo inserito nelle braccia che permette di lanciare i suoi pugni, ma a causa della fuoriuscita troppo repentina ci furono diversi incidenti occorsi ai bambini e il prodotto fu dichiarato pericoloso, così fu tolto immediatamente dal mercato.
Anche questa versione ha le v del petto bloccate con delle viti.

Un ultima versione su licenza è quella della Unifive e sinceramente non ne vedevo la necessità visto che in giro si trovano ancora diversi Mazinger Z Popy a buon mercato.
A mio avviso comunque, una versione sotto tono rispetto alle altre due prodotte...Gaiking e Great Mazinger.
