Realizzato dalla Bullmark nel 1977, il Mekander prende spunto dalla serie televisiva Mechander Robot, prodotta per la TV Giapponese nel 1977 dalla Wako Production. E'
sicuramente uno dei pezzi più pregiati della categoria jumbo Machinder,tanto da essere soprannominato “Graal”; solo pochi altri hanno avuto la fortuna di essere definiti con questo appellativo.
Un notevole contributo al suo valore attuale è dato dai pochi pezzi realizzati, il Mekander infatti è uno degli ultimi toys prodotti dalla Bullmark che nel 1977 decise di chiudere la propria attività regalando ai pochi fortunati, un vero e proprio “tesoro”.
La sua figura è veramente imponente misura un altezza di circa 65 cm, cinque in più rispetto ai Machinder tradizionali.
Il design della testa non è molto elaborato, le antenne a sfera, ad esempio, non hanno alcun movimento, mentre nella serie televisiva potevano sganciarsi e diventare una frusta magnetica; tutto ciò non pregiudica la sua bellezza e la presenza del diadema azzurro lo rende semplicemente unico.
Dal busto può lanciare quattro missili,molto diversi dai Popy, perché più piccoli e sottili ; questi possono essere espulsi grazie al pulsante situato nella schiena.
Molto belle le due lamine azzurre del busto, che una volta inserite prendono la forma di una V.
A differenza dei Popy o Shogun non ha alcun pugno sparante, ma due scudi posizionati nelle braccia.
Questi scudi hanno un funzionamento particolare, al loro interno sono posizionate tre lame in gomma che roteano velocemente grazie ad un meccanismo ad elastici, azionato da un piccolo grilletto.
Purtroppo non ha fori nei pugni, quindi niente spada galattica, un vero peccato perché un arma in più lo avrebbe reso ancora più accattivante.
Nelle gambe sono posizionate due lamine di colore blu, possono roteare per simulare la trasformazione.
A mio avviso, l’unica nota negativa di un robot strepitoso sono i reggi missili, sinceramente la Bullmark poteva studiare qualcosa di meglio, più che supporti hanno la forma di un tirapugni.
